Broker's Comments
This Gulfstar 54 Sailmaster is one of the best and last boats ever built by this quality manufacturer. She is a blend of stunning styling, great performance, and lavish accommodations - combined with outstanding engineering and construction.
Vince Lazzara, the founder of Gulfstar, was one of the pioneers of fiberglass yacht construction and his influence runs deep. He built the first fiberglass boat over 40 feet back in 1955 in Sausalito, California, called the 41’ Rhodes Bounty II. Vince sold the tooling to Pearson Yachts and in the early 1960’s. He then co-founded Columbia Yachts, which he sold in 1967. In 1970, he started Gulfstar Yachts in St. Petersburg, Florida, building both sail and power boats that provided excellent performance, accommodations, and value.
As the years progressed, so did the designs and quality of the Gulfstar line of boats. Major innovative construction techniques were ushered in 1978 that catapulted Gulfstar to be one of the major builders of high-quality yachts, The interior furniture construction, for instance, features laminated strips of teak to form door frames and fiddles that are not only aesthetically pleasing, but also structurally superior to other manufacturing methods. The Gulfstar 54 Sailmaster was the final model that incorporated all the best that Gulfstar had to offer.
In 1987, Gulfstar began to merge with Viking Yachts, which was completed in 1990. In 1991, Vince opened Lazzara Yachts with his sons Brad and Dick. Lazzara Yachts built world class yachts from 68’ to 120’.
